Spring Creek Book Company, owned by Springville residents Chad and Tammy Daybell, was recently named the 2005 Outstanding Small Wholesaler of the Year by the LDS Booksellers Association.
The honor was announced at the annual LDSBA Convention, held each year at the South Towne Expo Center in Salt Lake City. The award was tabulated based on ballots submitted by LDS retail stores from the United States, Canada, and England.
The large wholesaler award was given to Sounds of Zion Distribution of Sandy, Utah. Far West Books in Kennewick, Washington, was named the large retailer of the year, while Bell’s Family Books in Twin Falls, Idaho, won the small retailer award.
“We were honored to even be nominated, much less win the award,” Tammy Daybell said. “This was our first full year in business, so we appreciate the stores taking notice of our efforts to produce quality products.”
In less than two years, Spring Creek has produced more than 50 books written by 26 different authors. These books are available at all LDS bookstores and national internet outlets. In 2006, Spring Creek will have another 30 books come off the press.
“Our focus is to produce books for the whole family, whether they are uplifting novels, doctrinal and historical works, or books that help children with lessons or talks,” Chad Daybell said.
Chad noted that they have been fortunate to find talented authors and illustrators from all over the nation, but he is particularly grateful for local authors such as Janene Baadsgaard, Julie Bellon, Rachel Ann Nunes, Melanie Park, and Candace Salima, along with artists Elise Black and Rhett Murray.
“These talented people took a chance on us as we started the company, and it is great to see their books selling well,” Chad said.
Information about each of Spring Creek’s books and authors is available on the company website at www.springcreekbooks.com. Aspiring authors can also find manuscript submission guidelines on the website.
